A Guide to Locations

Inspiration for places to capture your family portraits

Location, Location, Location.

There’s no right or wrong answer to where to have your family photography session.

I have some location inspiration from around West Sussex and beyond to help make your decision much more straightforward. I love discovering new locations too, so if you have a favourite spot where you enjoy exercising your two and four-legged family members, I’d love to go exploring.

Family Home

Ideal for Newborns, Baby & Family Sessions

Your home can be an ideal location. Relax, read books, and play games (monopoly is a hard no). It’s the perfect opportunity to document you all as you are at this time in your life. Adventuring in the garden, practising the violin, baking a batch of cookies and drawing fire-breathing lamas is all part of family life that needs capturing.

At-home newborn & baby sessions are perfect as you have everything you need at your fingertips. Poo explosions aren’t a problem as there’s always spare baby grow to hand. Older siblings can play and do their own thing while we’re capturing newborn photos and not hanging around getting restless. When it’s time for sibling and family portraits, they’re ready to jump in and join the fun.

Forest, Lake & Meadow

Ideal for Babies (9m+) & Families

Outdoor sessions are my go-to recommendation for families. The outdoor environment offers limitless and unique backdrop options for your portraits. Being outdoors is just a big stress reliever where parents can decompress, and the kids can have fun, play, explore and be themselves.

The Beach

Ideal for Family & Extended Family Sessions

Being so close to the coast means there are many fantastic beach locations. I personally love the beach with sand dunes options. The light at the beach can be divine, creating truly epic family portraits.

I’d recommend a session in the early morning or late afternoon in the summer months to make the most of the stunning light and to avoid the crowds. Getting up at 6 am for a beach shoot might not be very appealing, but it’s worth the effort and will create meaningful memories to be cherished for generations.
